County Road 80 to be closed as part of I-77 Interchange construction
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, February 1, 2010) – County Road (CR) 80 will be closed to traffic for about eight months, weather permitting, on Monday, February 15th, for bridge construction associated with the new Interstate 77 Interchange project at Dover in Tuscarawas County.
CR 80 traffic will be detoured east on SR 516 to SR 39 east to SR 211 east to Slingluff Avenue in Dover, then east on Slingluff Avenue to North Wooster Avenue, then north on North Wooster Avenue back to CR 80, and reverse.
Access will be maintained to all businesses on Ohio and Progress Streets.
The new, $11.2 million interchange is intended to help relieve congestion at the existing, adjacent interchanges in Dover and Strasburg and promote future economic development in the area.
In addition to a new diamond interchange, the project includes the reconstruction of just under a mile of CR 80, the construction of a new overpass over I-77, the replacement of a bridge over the Sugar Creek, and the relocation of a portion of Progress Street.
ODOT’s contractor, The Beaver Excavating Company, from Canton, Ohio, began work in September 2009, and expects to complete the project by November 23, 2010.
