State Route 7 traffic to be stopped this afternoon for rock removal project
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, February 13, 2012) – State Route 7 traffic will be stopped intermittently throughout this afternoon near Brilliant in Jefferson County as part of a rock removal project.
Both north and southbound traffic will be stopped for 15 minutes at a time to allow for rock removal.
Work should be completed by 6 p.m. tonight.
ODOT’s rockfall remediation subcontractor, Janod Inc., from New York, began work last week to clean up the loose rock along the hillside. Rockfall restricted the southbound lanes of SR 7 in mid-January.
The passing lane remains open southbound, and both lanes are open to traffic northbound.
ODOT’s contractor for this project is The James White Construction Company, from Weirton, West Virginia. Officials anticipate this work to take about two months to complete, and the total project cost is $420,000.
