State Route 7 southbound reopened to one lane for evening commute but will close again later tonight
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, March 14, 2011) – The State Route 7 southbound passing lane is now reopened to traffic just north of Rush Run in Jefferson County due to a landslide that occurred late last night; however, both southbound lanes will be closed again later tonight.
Due to forecasted rainfall later in the week, ODOT officials have decided to reclose both southbound lanes after peak travel this evening to allow for a better evaluation of the hillside's stability.
Official detour signage will be in place for vehicle traffic to go west on SR 151 to Smithfield, to SR 152 south to Dillonvale, to SR 150 east back to SR 7 in Rayland. Commercial truck traffic should cross the Veteran's Memorial Bridge/U.S. Route 22 eastbound into West Virginia and use State Route 2 southbound. SR 7 southbound will remain open to Brilliant and the Cardinal Plant.
ODOT plans to build a crossover and reopen one lane of traffic in each direction in the northbound lanes within a month until long-term repairs can be made.
All four lanes of SR 7 were closed last Friday due to a mud and rock slide in the same location.
