ODOT seeks comments on State Route 646/County Road 51 Improvements in Harrison County
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Tuesday, March 29, 2011) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 is proposing improvements to State Route 646 (Annapolis Road) and County Road 51 (Cadiz-Amsterdam Road) in Harrison County by eliminating the existing CR 51 bridge located northwest of Hopedale.
The proposed project will replace the existing 27-foot wide bridge, built in 1938, with an at-grade intersection. This will require the realignment of 1,100 feet of SR 646 and 2,275 feet of CR 51. These improvements will make CR 51A (Worth Road) redundant; therefore, CR 51A will be removed.
Construction is anticipated for the summer of 2012. Through traffic will be maintained during the majority of construction by the utilization of part-width construction techniques. SR 646 may be detoured for a short period of time during construction. Portions of CR 51 and CR 51A may be closed during various phases of project construction. Notice of closure signs will be posted in advance of any scheduled road closures. Minor new right of way will be required to complete the project.
ODOT is seeking comments from the public about the social, environmental, and economic impacts of this proposed project. Environmental impacts could include those involving archeological, architectural and ecological resources, hazardous materials and the general location of the project.
Written comments concerning the project may be mailed to the Ohio Department of Transportation, District 11, Attention: Thomas E. Stratton, 2201 Reiser Avenue SE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663. ODOT District 11 can also be contacted by telephone at 330-339-6633. All comments must be submitted by April 29, 2011 .
