Work to begin on major I-70 upgrade project around Mall Rd.
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Tuesday, March 29, 2016) – Work is scheduled to begin this Sunday night, April 3rd, on a $13 million project to upgrade 4 ½ miles of Interstate 70 in Belmont County.
Construction will take place from almost a mile west of Mall Rd. to nearly four miles east of Mall Rd. and include pavement repairs, resurfacing, median barrier replacement, new guardrail, and new lighting. The project also includes bridge repairs on the I-70 bridges over Mall Rd.
To minimize congestion caused by this construction, most lane restrictions will occur at night. Two lanes will be maintained in each direction during daytime hours, but between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, the highway will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
ODOT’s contractor is Lash Paving Inc., from Colerain, Ohio, and the completion date is October 15, 2017.
