ODOT to begin more stimulus construction in eastern Ohio
Resurfacing work to get underway on State Route 148 in Belmont County and State Route 164 in Carroll and Jefferson Counties
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, April 5, 2010) – American Recovery and Reinvestment signs will go up next Monday, April 12th, as the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) readies to begin construction on a $2.8 million investment in eastern Ohio.
ODOT District 11 will be investing transportation stimulus dollars from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in Belmont, Carroll and Jefferson County by resurfacing over 20 miles of roadway.
The historic roadway signs, which read, Putting America Back to Work; Project Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, are being installed along Ohio’s roadways, interstates and bridges where work is underway on improvement projects funded with stimulus dollars.
ODOT District 11 Deputy Director Dick Bible, P.E. said, "These investments are putting Ohioans to work and transforming our transportation system for generations to come. By making this investment, these pavements will be extended by 10 to 12 years."
Over 13 miles of SR 148 will be resurfaced from the junction of SR 145 near Ohio Valley Coal to SR 7 at Powhatan Point. SR 164 will be resurfaced from SR 9 at Kilgore to SR 43 in Amsterdam. Additionally, over a mile of Jefferson County Township Road 289 will be resurfaced in the Brush Creek Wildlife Area.
Traffic will be maintained on all routes with flaggers.
ODOT’s contractor for this project, Shelly & Sands Inc., from Rayland, Ohio, expects to begin pavement repairs April 19th, and the completion date is July 31, 2010.
As of March, ODOT and its local partners have awarded contracts on 227 different construction projects worth more than $596 million (of which $493 million are stimulus funds). An up-to-date list of the transportation infrastructure projects receiving stimulus funding – with updates on projects approved, contracts awarded, and new employment opportunities – can be found online at www.dot.state.oh.us.
