S. Market St. to be closed in Berlin next week for pipe installation
Road to a Better Berlin project continues
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Wednesday, April 6, 2016) – Next Tuesday evening, April 12th, S. Market Street (County Road 120) will be closed during the evening hours for a pipe installation as part of the $4.3 million project improving safety through downtown Berlin in Holmes County.
S. Market Street will be closed at approximately 6 p.m. for four hours while ODOT’s contractor, Shelly & Sands Inc., from Columbus, Ohio, installs a storm sewer pipe across the roadway. No official detour will be established. Motorists are asked to plan ahead to avoid delays.
Starting next week will also be other off-peak work, including paving from the west end of the project near Berlin Elementary to the square. That work – to take place from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. – is expected to begin Monday, April 11th, and be completed Thursday night, April 14th. Also at the same time during nighttime hours, storm sewer work will be taking place between the lights along Main Street. One lane for two-way traffic will be maintained for all night work except for the four-hour, S. Market Street closure.
The Ohio Department of Transportation maintains the state's largest man-made asset – the transportation system. ODOT's mission is to provide the safe and easy movement of people and goods from place to place. As a $2.8 billion per year enterprise, ODOT invests the bulk of its resources in system preservation through maintenance, construction and snow and ice operations.
The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
