Interstate 70 work east of Barnesville Exit to continue over weekend
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Wednesday, April 15, 2015) – Work zone preparations underway on Interstate 70 about ½ mile east of the State Route 800/Barnesville Exit in Belmont County will continue over the weekend.
ODOT’s contractor, Shelly & Sands Inc., from Columbus, Ohio, began milling and paving work this week as part of the $5.1 million bridge rehabilitation and removal project. Weather permitting, that work is expected to continue over the weekend.
Work has been taking place from 7 p.m. to 11 a.m. since Sunday night; however tomorrow night, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday morning, April 17th. Then, Friday night work will take place from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Then, work will resume Sunday evening from 7 p.m. to 11 a.m. Monday morning, April 20th. Depending on weather, work may also extend into Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead to avoid delays.
A contraflow pattern for traffic – meaning two lanes of traffic in each direction, but one direction will be split – is expected to be in place sometime next week. For example, one lane of westbound traffic will be crossed over onto I-70 eastbound, while the second lane will remain on I-70 westbound.
The project, which began late last year, involves the rehabilitation of the east and westbound bridges over Spencer Creek, and the removal of the east and west pair of bridges over an abandoned railroad bed just east of Exit 202. The completion date for the project is May 2016.
