Interstate 70 Eastbound Rest Area in Belmont County to be Closed Sunday for Highway Project
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, April 26, 2010) – The Interstate 70 eastbound rest area at Exit 210 in Belmont County will be closed on Sunday, May 2nd, as part of the $23 million, five-mile major upgrade of the interstate.
The eastbound rest area will remain closed throughout the duration of the highway project. While it is closed, ODOT will also be upgrading the facilities to include new floors, new roof, new plumbing, heating and air conditioning, electrical systems and lighting, the addition of a family restroom, and new sidewalk.
Since the end of March, ODOT's contractor, Kokosing Construction Company, from Columbus, Ohio, has been rebuilding the outside shoulder of the eastbound lanes to allow for the maintenance of traffic. They will be reconstructing the westbound lanes this year, and the eastbound lanes next year.
Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in both directions at all times except for permitted lane closures at night between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
The completion date for this project is October 31, 2011.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
