State Route 520 to be restricted for
tree trimming work
ODOT clearing canopy over roadway
and performing right of way maintenance
Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, May 5, 2014) – Beginning next week, State Route 520 will be closed during
daytime hours in Holmes County for tree trimming work.
Beginning Monday, May 12th, SR 520 will be
closed during daytime hours between SR 514 and Glenmont.
ODOT’s Holmes County crew will be using a “SkyTrim” unit for
canopy removal and right of way clearing and maintenance.
ODOT District 11 Deputy Director Lloyd MacAdam said, “Clearing overhead
canopy from our roads improves our pavement longevity and increases motorist
safety in the winter.”
Crews are expected to work on SR 520 for the next three
weeks between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday
through Friday. No official detour will be posted. Motorists should plan ahead
to avoid delays.
The “SkyTrim” is self-contained and requires virtually no set up
time. ODOT also uses a similar unit called the “Jarraff” and has completed work
in other parts of eastern Ohio with it. Both machines allow smaller crews to do
more work in less time, and since workers never leave the ground, the equipment
adds safety to the job.
Ohio’s highways are essential to keeping and
creating new jobs. With a mission to provide easy movement of people and
goods from place to place, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is
responsible for maintaining one of the largest transportation networks in the
nation. Guided by ethical principles and accountability, ODOT works to
improve safety, enhance travel and advance economic development. As a
$2.8 billion enterprise, the department wisely invests in its core services of
snow and ice removal, annual construction program and highway maintenance
