U.S. Route 22 Reopened Early at Bloomingdale Exit
(NEW PHILADELPHIA, OHIO) --U.S. Route 22 is reopened to traffic this morning at the Bloomingdale Exit in Jefferson County.
It was closed earlier this week as part of the State Route 152 bridge replacement project over the highway. ODOT's contractor, Beaver Excavating Company, from Canton, Ohio, had to close both east and westbound lanes of U.S. 22 while they erected structural steel for the new bridge. Traffic has been rerouted onto the exit ramps and back onto the highway since Monday morning. Work wasn't expected to be completed until late tomorrow.
SR 152, however, remains closed until early June. Northbound SR 152 traffic is being detoured east on U.S. 22 to the Broadacre Interchange and back; southbound traffic is being detoured west on U.S. 22 to the Hopedale Interchange and back.
The completion date for this $1.5 million project is June 30, 2009.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
