State Route 7 southbound reduced to one lane near Yellow Creek for rockfall remediation investigation work
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Wednesday, June 1, 2011) – The southbound travel lane of State Route 7 near Yellow Creek in Jefferson County was closed today for subsurface investigation work.
ODOT's geotechnical contractor, H.C. Nutting Company, from Cincinnati, Ohio, will be drilling four soil borings along the top of the slope in order to provide repair recommendations.
The southbound travel lane of SR 7 will remain reduced to one lane from the Columbiana County line to Yellow Creek for about one to two weeks. The northbound lanes will not be affected by this work.
However, ODOT anticipates having a tree cutting contractor on site to begin clearing the hillside within two weeks, and the SR 7 southbound travel lane will need to be closed for this work as well.
This project, estimated to cost $13 million, is being funded by federal emergency funds due to a major rockfall event in March.
