I-70 delays likely next week at Bridgeport for construction
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, June 8, 2015) – Weather permitting, traffic delays are likely next Monday and Tuesday, June 15th and 16th, on Interstate 70 eastbound as part of the $9 million bridge replacement project at Marion Street (Exit 225) in Bridgeport.
During daytime hours, ODOT’s contractor, JD Williamson Construction Co. Inc., from Tallmadge, Ohio, will be setting the new bridge beams on Marion Street over the eastbound lanes of the highway, requiring short duration closures by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Traffic is expected to be slowed to a stop throughout the day for up to 15 minutes at a time.
The Marion Street bridge is closed to traffic as well as the westbound on ramp to I-70, and both the I-70 eastbound ramps. The westbound off ramp remains open.
Local northbound traffic wanting to access I-70 eastbound is detoured to Wheeling Island. Local traffic is detoured on U.S. 40 from Bridgeport to the Belmont County Road 214 Exit. Access to Bridgeport continues to be maintained; however, thru truck traffic is encouraged to use I-470 to avoid congestion and possible delays.
Three structures are being replaced as part of this project, including the Marion Street bridge over I-70 and the eastbound on and off ramp structures to I-70.
The completion date for this project is mid-November 2015.
