State Route 9 road closure north of New Garden delayed again due to weather
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Tuesday, June 22, 2010) – The State Route 9 road closure planned for next Monday, June 28th, north of New Garden in Columbiana County has been postponed for the second time due to inclement weather.
SR 9 will not be closed to traffic until mid-July; however, off-road work will begin Monday, June 28th, on such things as construction of the footers.
Around July 19th, the roadway will be closed for 14 days, while ODOT's contractor, Bud's Inc., from Nashport, Ohio, replaces the existing slab bridge over an unnamed tributary to Guilford Lake with a precast concrete box culvert.
Beginning at the intersection of SR 9 and SR 172, traffic will be detoured east on SR 172 to U.S. 30 east to SR 45 north back to SR 9, and reverse.
The cost for this project is $178,843, and the overall completion date is August 31, 2010.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
