State Route 149 to be Reduced to One Lane West of Bellaire Today
(NEW PHILADELPHIA, OHIO) --State Route 149 will be reduced to one, 12-foot lane west of the village of Bellaire's corporation limits in Belmont County later today as part of the 1.4 mile relocation project that began in July 2008.
Two-way traffic will be maintained with a temporary traffic signal.
ODOT’s contractor, Shelly & Sands Inc., from Zanesville, Ohio, will be excavating and blasting the adjacent hillside to realign the roadway. This work is expected to take at least two months to complete.
The completion date for the entire $6.3 million project is August 2010.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
