Bridge Repairs Get Underway in Columbiana and Tuscarawas Counties
(NEW PHILADELPHIA, OHIO) --The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 began work yesterday to repair two bridges on State Routes 14 and 164 in Columbiana County.
The $260,000 project also includes work on eight bridges located on State Routes 258, 39, 516, U.S. Route 250, and Interstate 77 in Tuscarawas County.
To protect the bridges from deterioration, the existing steel pipe piers will be encased with reinforced concrete and rock channel protection will be placed along the base of these new encasements. Most of this work will occur underneath the structures and have a very minimal impact to traffic. During the work on I-77, which will be just south of the U.S. 250/New Philadelphia Exit in Tuscarawas County, daytime lane closures are expected.
ODOT’s contractor for this project is BCC Ohio Inc., from New London, Ohio, and the completion date is mid-September 2009.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
For information on additional lane and road closures caused by construction, accidents, flooding or other related traffic events, visit ODOT's gateway to traffic and roadway information at www.BuckeyeTraffic.org.
