Interstate 77 Delays Possible at Stone Creek beginning Next Week
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Thursday, July 22, 2010) – Beginning Monday, July 26th, motorists may experience nighttime delays on Interstate 77 at the Stone Creek Exit in Tuscarawas County.
Both north and southbound lanes of I-77 will be rerouted from the mainline of the interstate intermittently via the on and off ramps between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. to allow for the safe removal of the State Route 751 bridge deck and beams over the highway.
This work should be completed by Friday, August 6th, and will only be performed during those nighttime hours.
Motorists should use an alternate route, if possible, to avoid potential delays. Officials also urge motorists, who do have to travel this area during this work, to watch for stopped traffic.
This is part of the $2.7 million project that recently began to replace the SR 751 bridge located over I-77. Additionally, SR 751 remains closed to traffic; however, access will be maintained throughout the road closure for emergency vehicles.
ODOT's contractor for this project is Dennison Bridge Inc., from Dennison, Ohio, and the completion date is June 15, 2011.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
