U.S. Route 22 eastbound ramp from University Blvd. to the Vets Memorial Bridge to be closed for major reconstruction
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, July 25, 2016) – Starting next Monday, August 1st, the on-ramp to U.S. Route 22 east from University Blvd. to access the Veterans Memorial Bridge will be closed for 20 days as part of the ongoing, $10 million access improvement project at Steubenville in Jefferson County.
During the closure, the existing ramp will be removed, realigned, and reconstructed. At the same time, an additional turn lane will be built on State Route 7 southbound before the University Blvd. intersection and two additional turn lanes constructed on University Blvd. up to the newly constructed ramp that will also have two lanes leading to U.S. 22 eastbound for the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
Traffic will be detoured north on SR 7 to merge onto U.S. 22 west to the first exit (John Scott) to get back onto U.S. 22 eastbound.
Motorists are asked to plan ahead to avoid delays. The ramp is expected to be reopened to traffic by August 21, 2016.
ODOT’s contractor is Shelly & Sands Inc., from Columbus, Ohio, and the overall completion date is November 30, 2017.
