Upcoming nightly lane restrictions on Interstate 70 at State Route 331 Interchange may slow traffic over coming weeks
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, August 08, 2016) – Weather permitting, Interstate 70 traffic may experience some slight delays over the next two weeks during the evening and nighttime hours at the State Route 331 Interchange Improvement project in Belmont County.
Starting Monday, August 15th, and lasting about two weeks, both east and westbound will have multiple lane closures between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., while ODOT’s contractor, Shelly & Sands Inc., from Columbus, Ohio, sets the beams for the SR 331 bridge over the highway and installs cross frames and falsework.
On Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 15 and 16), there will be intermittent, 15 minute closures of both east and westbound lanes between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., and on Wednesday, Aug. 17th, – also between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. – intermittent, 15 minute closures are expected for the eastbound lanes only while crews set the new beams for the SR 331 bridge over I-70.
This $19.5 million, major interchange improvement project began in April and is intended to reduce congestion and improve safety.
- Widening of U.S. 40, SR 331 and Hammond Road
- A new connector between existing SR 331 and Hammond Road
- Improved roadway and interchange design
- SR 331 bridge replacement
- Twin bridge deck replacements on I-70 over U.S. 40
- Pedestrian facilities within the project limits
The completion date for the entire project is September 30, 2017.
The Ohio Department of Transportation maintains the state's largest man-made asset – the transportation system. ODOT's mission is to provide the safe and easy movement of people and goods from place to place. As a $2.8 billion per year enterprise, ODOT invests the bulk of its resources in system preservation through maintenance, construction and snow and ice operations.
The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
