Work to begin next week on Bunker Hill Intersection in Holmes County
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, August 16, 2010) – Work is set to begin next Monday, August 23rd, to make safety improvements at the intersection of U.S. Route 62 and County Road 77 in Holmes County.
This intersection, located at the top of Bunker Hill near Berlin, will be completed reconstructed. Because of the steep hill, it is difficult to see approaching vehicles, and despite a flashing intersection beacon, this location has been the site of numerous accidents.
There will be multiple phases of work, including different traffic patterns, throughout this construction. Currently, all traffic will be maintained; however in September, CR 77 will be closed south of U.S. 62 for about a week.
ODOT's contractor for this $3 million project is Fechko Excavating Inc., from Medina, Ohio, and the completion date is October 31, 2011.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
