Interstate 77 southbound to be restricted at Stone Creek tomorrow night
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Wednesday, August 18, 2010) – Southbound Interstate 77 motorists may experience delays tomorrow night at the Stone Creek Exit in Tuscarawas County as part of the $2.7 million State Route 751 bridge replacement project over the highway.
From 9 p.m. Thursday, August 19th to 6 a.m. Friday morning, August 20th, the southbound lanes of I-77 will be rerouted from the mainline of the interstate via the off and on ramps, while the contractor safely removes the bridge's pier caps -- the final pieces of the bridge to be removed.
Motorists should use an alternate route, if possible, to avoid delays. Officials urge motorists, who do have to travel through this area during this work, to watch for stopped traffic. The northbound lanes will not be affected by this work.
ODOT's contractor for this project is Dennison Bridge Inc., from Dennison, Ohio, and the completion date is June 15, 2011.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
