Work to Repair State Route 45 Landslide to Begin Next Week
(NEW PHILADELPHIA, OHIO) --The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 will begin work next Monday, August 25th, to repair a landslide, which began in April 2007, along State Route 45 west of Wellsville in Yellow Creek Township, Columbiana County.
ODOT District 11 Deputy Director Dick Bible, P.E. said, "Our maintenance crews performed temporary repairs to this site last fall in order to stabilize the roadway and keep it open to two lanes over the winter. However, heavy rainfall this spring reactivated movement of the slide and forced us to reduce the roadway again to one lane."
ODOT’s contractor, Tri Span Corporation, from New Middletown, Ohio, will mobilize equipment and begin pavement work next week. Permanent repairs to the site will include construction of a retaining wall.
Two-way traffic will continue to be maintained in a 10-foot wide lane with temporary traffic signals.
The cost of this project is $336,433, and the completion date is October 31, 2008.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
