Work to Begin Next Week on Safety Improvements at Holmes County Intersection
(NEW PHILADELPHIA, OHIO) --The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 will begin work next Monday, August 25th, to improve safety at the intersection of State Route 39, State Route 60, and State Route 754 near West Holmes High School in Holmes County.
ODOT’s contractor, Shelly & Sands Inc., from Zanesville, Ohio, will begin mobilizing equipment next week as well as performing vegetation removal off SR 60, and constructing temporary pavement.
ODOT District 11 Deputy Director Dick Bible, P.E. said, "As part of this $2.5 million safety improvement, left turn lanes and traffic signals will be added to SR 39 at its intersection with SR 60 and SR 754, and SR 60 and SR 754 will be relocated for an improved realignment with SR 39."
Two, 12-foot lanes of traffic will be maintained throughout the work zone until late October when SR 60 will be closed for 14 days. SR 754 will be also be closed for a short time next summer.
The completion date for the project is September 30, 2009.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
