ODOT seeks Comments on New Jefferson County Maintenance Facility Construction

New Philadelphia, Ohio (Thursday, August 26, 2010)The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 is proposing construction of a new county maintenance facility north of Wintersville, Ohio.

Construction will include a new ODOT Jefferson County maintenance facility on an 11.3 acre parcel of reclaimed strip mine to be purchased by the state of Ohio. The proposed site is located on County Road 43 (Ross Ridge Alikanna Rd.) north of the village of Wintersville. The new facility will replace the existing ODOT Jefferson County garage constructed in 1955. Architectural plans will be prepared by the state of Ohio Architect's Office and will be an ODOT Pre-engineered Metal Building (PEM) Prototype. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2012.

ODOT is seeking comments from the public about the social, environmental and economic impacts of this proposed project. Environmental impacts include impacts associated with historic and ecological resources, hazardous materials, and the general location of the project.
