U.S. 40 westbound and Airport Rd. closures set to begin next week at SR 331 Interchange
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Tuesday, September 06, 2016) – Starting next Monday, September 12th, Airport Rd. along with a section of U.S. Route 40 westbound will be closed until November 4th, 2016, as part of the $19.5 million interchange improvement project underway at Interstate 70 and State Route 331 in Belmont County.
Airport Rd. will be detoured on Pogue Rd. (CR 80) to Oak View Rd.
Westbound U.S. 40 traffic will be detoured on U.S. 40 east to Rolling Acres (Exit 215) to I-70 west to Exit 213, to SR 331 south back to U.S. 40. Eastbound traffic on U.S. 40 will be maintained.
ODOT’s contractor, Shelly & Sands Inc., Columbus, Ohio, began work in April on this project to reduce congestion and improve safety.
- Widening of U.S. 40, SR 331 and Hammond Road
- A new connector between existing SR 331 and Hammond Road
- Improved roadway and interchange design
- SR 331 bridge replacement
- Twin bridge deck replacements on I-70 over U.S. 40
- Pedestrian facilities within the project limits
I-70 and SR 331 traffic will be maintained at all times. However, U.S. 40 westbound and various ramps will be closed at different times during construction.
The completion date for the entire project is September 30, 2017.
The Ohio Department of Transportation maintains the state's largest man-made asset – the transportation system. ODOT's mission is to provide the safe and easy movement of people and goods from place to place. As a $2.8 billion per year enterprise, ODOT invests the bulk of its resources in system preservation through maintenance, construction and snow and ice operations.
The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
