Interstate 470 Eastbound to be Reduced to One Lane Again Next Week
(NEW PHILADELPHIA, OHIO) --The eastbound lanes of Interstate 470 in Belmont County will be reduced to one lane again next Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, to allow for the completion of rock barrier construction that began in mid-August.
One lane of traffic will be maintained in the eastbound passing lane, but congestion and delays are likely. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 is encouraging motorists to use an alternate route to avoid delays caused by this construction. I-470 westbound will not be affected.
This work is expected to be completed by Friday,Sept. 26, 2008.
ODOT’s contractor for this $1.87 million project is Kokosing Construction Company Inc., from Columbus, Ohio. This project also included rock barrier construction along State Route 7 in Belmont County and U.S. Route 22 in Jefferson County.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
