State Route 152 Bridge Repairs Delayed to Next Year Due to Steel Beam Availability
(NEW PHILADELPHIA, OHIO) --The State Route 152 bridge over U.S. Route 22 at the Bloomingdale Exit in Jefferson County will remain one lane until next summer.
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 was originally hopeful that repairs would be made to the bridge, damaged last December by an oversized load, this year. However, the steal beams needed are unavailable until January 2009.
Therefore, ODOT's contractor, the Beaver Excavating Company, from Canton, Ohio, plans to begin work in March 2009. Until then, one lane of two-way traffic will continue to be maintained with temporary traffic signals.
Once repairs begin, the contractor will close SR 152 for 65 days.
The cost of this project is $1.55 million, and the completion date is now June 30, 2009.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
