Interstate 70 on-ramp at State Route 9 to be closed next week
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Tuesday, October 15, 2013) – The Interstate 70 westbound on-ramp at State Route 9 (Exit 216) in Belmont County will be closed next Monday, October 21st for ramp reconstruction as part of the $9.7 million bridge replacement project that began in March.
Traffic will be detoured east on I-70 to Exit 218, then north on CR 28B (Mall Road) back to I-70 west. This closure is expected to last approximately one month.
Work includes rehabilitating the I-70 bridge over SR 9 at St. Clairsville, lengthening the westbound I-70 on-ramp from SR 9, and replacing the bridge that carries I-70 over the National Road Bikeway and Chambers Run.
Two lanes on I-70 will be maintained in each direction during construction. Pedestrian and bicyclist access to the National Road Bikeway is also being maintained with a temporary trail.
ODOT’s contractor for this project is Beaver Excavating Company, from Canton, Ohio, and the completion date is August 31, 2014.
