Interstate 70 to be restricted Sunday night near Mall Road
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, October 31, 2016) – Both east and westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near Mall Rd. and the Interstate 470 split will be restricted Sunday night, Nov. 6th, as part of the ongoing, $13 million project to upgrade 4 ½ miles of I-70 in Belmont County.
Starting at 6 p.m., ODOT’s contractor, Lash Paving Inc., from Colerain, Ohio, will be re-erecting overhead signs with assistance from the Ohio State Highway patrol.
Traffic will be slowed to a stop while work is performed over the highway. Motorists should plan ahead to avoid delays.
Work began on this project – that stretches from almost a mile west of Mall Rd. to nearly four miles east of Mall Rd. – in April. Construction includes pavement repairs, resurfacing, median barrier replacement, new guardrail, and new lighting. The project also includes bridge repairs on the I-70 bridges over Mall Rd.
The completion date for the project is October 15, 2017. The final course of asphalt will be placed next spring as well as bridge work completed.
The Ohio Department of Transportation maintains the state's largest man-made asset – the transportation system. ODOT's mission is to provide the safe and easy movement of people and goods from place to place. As a $2.8 billion per year enterprise, ODOT invests the bulk of its resources in system preservation through maintenance, construction and snow and ice operations.
The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
