Night work to restrict Interstate 70 later this week near Mall Road
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Tuesday, November 01, 2016) – In addition to overhead sign work planned for Sunday night, November 6th, as part of the ongoing, $13 million project to upgrade 4 ½ miles of Interstate 70 in Belmont County, pavement work will also occur at night this Thursday and Friday, November 3rd and 4th.
On Thursday night, eastbound I-70 traffic will be restricted. And on Friday night, both eastbound and westbound traffic will be restricted near Mall Rd. and the I-470 split to the west end of the project.
Work will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. both nights.
Motorists should plan ahead to avoid delays.
Work began on this project – that stretches from almost a mile west of Mall Rd. to nearly four miles east of Mall Rd. – in April. Construction includes pavement repairs, resurfacing, median barrier replacement, new guardrail, and new lighting. The project also includes bridge repairs on the I-70 bridges over Mall Rd.
ODOT’s contractor is Lash Paving Inc., from Colerain, Ohio, and the completion date for the project is October 15, 2017. The final course of asphalt will be placed next spring as well as bridge work completed.
The Ohio Department of Transportation maintains the state's largest man-made asset – the transportation system. The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
