ODOT to hold Public Involvement Meeting on Proposed Interchange Improvements in Belmont County
New Philadelphia, Ohio (November 2, 2010) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 is proposing improvements to the Interstate 70/U.S. Route 40/State Route 331 Interchange in Richland Township, Belmont County, Ohio.
The current interchange and surrounding roadways have numerous safety and functional deficiencies associated with the existing interchange configuration. An engineering study has been completed to determine the extent of the problems within the interchange, and three conceptual alternatives have been considered to improve its operation.
ODOT will host a public involvement meeting to discuss the project and present the alternatives being considered. The meeting will be conducted in an open house format with an open microphone question and answer session. The public is invited to view exhibits of the proposed alternatives and ask the Project Management Team, comprised of ODOT and its engineering consultant for the project EMH&T, from Columbus, Ohio, questions relevant to the project.
Anyone interested in this project is encouraged to attend. ODOT continues to seek comments from the public about the social, environmental, and economic impacts of this proposed project. Environmental impacts include those involving archeological, architectural and ecological resources, hazardous materials and the general location of the project. After evaluating the questions and comments received at this meeting, ODOT will consider comments received from the public and proceed with the conceptual alternative analysis to finalize a preferred alternative for the project.
Comment forms will be available for the public to complete at the meeting, or they can be mailed at a later time to ODOT District 11, ATTN: Christopher J. Varcolla, 2201 Reiser Avenue SE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663. In order to proceed with the project in a timely manner, all comments must be submitted by November 30, 2010.
