ODOT seeks comments on State Route 800 slope repair project in Harrison County
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, November 5, 2012) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 is proposing repairs to State Route 800 (Freeport-Tippecanoe Road) near the intersection of Milarcik Road in Washington Township, Harrison County.
The project will remediate an existing embankment failure along the southern side of the roadway. It will include the excavation of approximately 300 feet of failing soils and reconstruction of the embankment with a rock buttress. Additionally, existing drainage ditches and a culvert under the road that have been covered by the slide will be repaired. Guardrail will also be replaced at the location of the slide.
Construction is anticipated to begin next summer. Traffic will be maintained during construction, utilizing part-width construction techniques. Minor new right of way will be required to complete the project.
ODOT is seeking comments from the public about the social, environmental, and economic impacts of this proposed project. Environmental impacts could include those involving archaeological architectural and ecological resources, hazardous materials, and the general location of the project.
Written comments concerning the project may be mailed to the Ohio Department of Transportation, District II, Attention: Thomas E. Stratton, 2201 Reiser Avenue SE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663. ODOT District II can also be contacted by telephone at 330-339-6633. All comments must be submitted by December 5, 2012.
