ODOT seeks comments on I-70 bridge project west of Morristown
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Friday, December 20, 2013) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 is seeking comments to a proposed bridge project (PID 91866) on Interstate 70 approximately two miles west of Morristown in Belmont County, Ohio.
The project will rehabilitate existing twin bridges over Stillwater Creek and County Road 100. The original 372-foot long bridges were constructed in 1969 and last rehabilitated in 1991. The project will replace the existing superstructure of the bridges with three-span, prestressed concrete I-beams on new abutments. The existing piers will be reused and minor repairs will be made to the bridges’ substructure units.
Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2015. Traffic will be maintained, using part-width construction techniques.
ODOT is seeking comments from the public about the social, environmental, and economic impacts of this proposed project. Environmental impacts include those involving archeological, architectural and ecological resources, hazardous materials, and the general location of the project.
Written comments concerning the project may be mailed to the Ohio Department of Transportation, District 11, Attention: Thomas E. Stratton, 2201 Reiser Avenue SE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663. ODOT District 11 can also be contacted by telephone at 330-339-6633. All comments must be submitted by January 20, 2014.
