U.S. Route 30 to be closed to traffic next weekend just east of Minerva for railroad grade crossing safety upgrade
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Friday, June 4, 2010) – U.S. Route 30 will be closed to traffic next Friday, June 11th, just east of Minerva in Columbiana County for a railroad grade crossing safety upgrade project.
U.S. 30 will be closed around 8 a.m. Friday morning to allow Ohi-Rail Corporation the ability to install state-of-the-art warning devices and a new high-type grade crossing surface at the grade crossing. The roadway is expected to be reopened to traffic by 6 p.m. Monday, June 14th.
Beginning at the intersection of U.S. 30 and SR 183 in Minerva, traffic will be detoured north on SR 183 to SR 172 in New Franklin in Stark County, then east on SR 172 to SR 9 in New Garden, and south on SR 9 back to U.S. 30, and reverse.
The Ohio Rail Development Commission is investing $250,000 of transportation stimulus dollars from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act on this project.
As of the end of April, ODOT and its local partners have awarded contracts on more than 335 different stimulus-funded transportation construction projects worth more than $882 million (of which $557 million are stimulus funds). So far, 71 stimulus projects have been completed on Ohio's roadways and bridges, providing safer travel for Ohio's citizens and businesses.
Just as important as the number of projects is the number of paychecks these stimulus investments are helping to write. Since the start of the Recovery Act, workers on stimulus-funded transportation projects (both ODOT and locally administered projects) have logged more than 812,895 hours and earned more than $26.9 million in paychecks.
An up-to-date list of the transportation infrastructure projects receiving stimulus funding – with updates on projects approved, contracts awarded, and new employment opportunities – can be found online at www.dot.state.oh.us.
