Vrooman Road Bridge, Lake County
The Vrooman Road Bridge replacement project was designed to enhance public safety by creating better intersection geometry, roadway alignments and eliminating the hazard of flooding.

 Project Information (updated 11/5/18)

The Ohio Department of Transportation and Lake County Engineers Office partnered to complete the construction of a new Vrooman Rd. bridge over the Grand River. Since then, project plans have been finalized and environmental permits have been obtained. In June 2018, the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service in Washington DC completed their review and approval of the project's easements. The project was awarded to The Great Lakes Construction Company in July 2018. Surveying work began in August 2018 in preparation for construction. Construction of the bridge foundations and piers is expected to begin in mid-September. The expected completion date for the project is fall 2020.
The northern portion of Vrooman Rd. will remain closed for the duration of the project in order to facilitate the construction of the new bridge.

 Environmental Concerns Being Addressed

Scenic River
The Vrooman Road Bridge sits over the Grand River, which is a State designated “Wild and Scenic River.”  The portion of the river under the bridge is designated as a “wild” river.  Proposed improvements of the bridge will be developed to minimize impacts to the river.

Cultural Resources
Investigation and documentation of archeological sites within the projects limits will be completed prior to the project.

Identified wetlands will be avoided where possible and mitigation measures will be enacted as necessary.

Other Environmental Factors
Several public comments have been received that noted concerns with noise, alignments, safety and other issues.  All of these and more are being fully researched and investigated.  As additional documentation is developed to address these concerns updated information will be made available.
