All-way stop coming to Thompson Twp. intersection
SR 86 and SR 166 to become all-way stop Sept. 28
Thompson Township (Tuesday, September 26, 2017) - The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is committed to making roads safer for all users. The intersection of SR 86 (Plank Road) and SR 166 (Rock Creek Road) has appeared on the Highway Safety Improvement Program's priority list for Rural Intersections in consecutive years.
In 2013, ODOT installed additional and new warning signs at the Plank Road and Rock Creek Road intersection. Since then, ODOT has continued to monitor the safety performance of this intersection and it has not made enough of an improvement. As a result, ODOT will be taking further action to mitigate the frequency and severity of crashes. The intersection will be converted to all-way stop control on Thursday, September 28, 2017.
In order to alert Rock Creek Road motorists to this change in condition, ODOT will be installing flashing beacons on the warning signs in advance of the new "STOP" signs, in addition to providing LED-enhanced borders on Rock Creek Road “STOP” signs. All signs will be posted on both right and left side of the roadway, for extra emphasis.
Finally, an additional “STOP” sign will be provided on the Rock Creek Road westbound approach. It will be mounted on a sign support approximately 12’ tall to increase its visibility for westbound traffic coming over the crest of the hill that is located just east of the intersection.
