Cleveland: West 140th Street Bridge over I-71 to Close Tuesday
Bridge closure allows work to be completed four months earlier than anticipated
GARFIELD HEIGHTS (Friday, May 22, 2015) – On Tuesday, May 26, crews will close the West 140th Street bridge over I-71 between St. James Avenue and Harold Avenue on Cleveland’s west side for bridge deck replacement operations. The bridge will remain closed through mid-August 2015.
Since late-March, two-way traffic has been maintained on West 140th Street utilizing a temporary traffic signal. After reviewing the project work schedule, it was determined that by completely closing the bridge for the remaining work, it would reduce the duration of the project by approximately four months. This would allow the bridge to be open to full width before school resumes in the fall of 2015.
Motorists will be detoured via Puritas Avenue, West 150th Street and Lorain Avenue. Pedestrians will be detoured via West 143rd Street.
In addition, Harold Avenue remains closed at West 140th Street until mid-August for work on the West 140th Street bridge. Motorists are detoured via Sherry Avenue and West 137th Street.
