Construction at West 73th Street To Impact West 65th Street Pedestrian TunnelTemporary realignment begins Wednesday, Temporary closure after Labor Day
GARFIELD HEIGHTS (Monday, August 11, 2014) – On Wednesday, August 13, crews on behalf of the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will temporarily adjust the alignment of the West 65th Street pedestrian tunnel to Edgewater Park. This realignment is necessary to accommodate construction of the new West 73rd Street Extension and allows the trail to remain open during a portion of the work.
The temporary realignment will be in place until September 2, at which time the West 65th Street Pedestrian Tunnel and trail will be temporarily closed until late-November 2014. The temporary closure is necessary to accommodate the remainder of the realignment work to connect the West 65th Street trail to Edgewater Park. The trail will have a new path to Edgewater Park that connects with the new West 73rd Street Extension.
During the closure, pedestrians will be detoured via south on West 65th Street, west on Detroit Avenue, north on West 73rd Street and west on Battery Park Blvd. to the West 76th Street pedestrian tunnel and trail to Edgewater Park.
The Lakefront West Project is working to connect Cleveland's west side neighborhoods with the lakefront by creating multi-modal connections along the West Shoreway between West Boulevard and the Main Avenue Bridge. The Lakefront West Project will increase access to Lake Erie, improve green space, biking and pedestrian facilities, increase development potential and simplify connections along the now limited-access freeway.
