Downtown Traffic Restrictions Begin Monday for Bridge Work
Garfield Heights (Monday, July 9, 2018) - Did you know that some of the downtown streets near Tower City are really bridges? The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will soon begin a project to make improvements to those structures along W. Huron Road, W. Prospect Avenue, W. 6th Street, W. 3rd Street and W. 2nd Street.
Beginning Monday, July 16, crews will begin work on W. 6th Street, W. 3rd St. and W. 2nd Street. Work will take place through October 2018 and the following restrictions will be in place:
- W. 6th Street: Maintained bi-directional traffic from either Prospect Ave. or Huron Rd. during construction to maintain access to garage. No on-street parking.
- W. 3rd Street: Closed to through traffic during construction. Maintain one lane northbound for hotel valet and hotel traffic ONLY. No on-street parking.
- W. 2nd Street: Maintain one lane southbound throughout construction. No on-street parking.
All work is weather permitting and dates may change. Updates will be sent out ahead of each phase change.
Work includes bridge joint replacement, bridge deck resurfacing and sealing and sidewalk replacement. You can learn more about the 2018 work here
Throughout the duration of the project there will be necessary closures and restrictions in the area. Sidewalks will be open to pedestrians outside of the construction zones.
Work on West Huron Rd. will occur in 2019 and work on West Prospect Ave. will occur in 2020. Stay tuned for more information on the traffic impacts.
The project was awarded to Great Lakes Construction company for $13,990,873 and work is expected to be complete in fall 2020.
