Fifth Avenue and SR 44 Construction in Chardon to Begin Monday
Chardon, Ohio (Thursday, April 1, 2010) – Beginning Monday, April 5, 2010 the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Perk Company, Incorporated of Cleveland will begin a project to realign the Fifth Avenue and SR 44 (Center Street) intersection and install new traffic signals in the city of Chardon.
Crews will maintain Fifth Avenue between SR 44 and Heinen’s east driveway with one lane in each direction. Heinen’s west driveway will be closed until approximately May 18, 2010 however access will be maintained via the east driveway.
Simultaneously, crews will begin widening the northbound lanes of SR 44 between Fifth Avenue and the Giant Eagle entrance. Traffic will be maintained with one lane in each direction utilizing the SR 44 southbound lanes. This phase of the project will be complete on or around May 11, 2010.
Entrance access to First Merit Bank will be via SR 44. Motorists may exit via Fifth Avenue.
During portions of construction on Fifth Avenue, traffic will be maintained with one lane of one-way traffic first in the eastbound direction and then in the westbound direction. Motorists will be detoured via Washington Street while one-way traffic is implemented. Details will be forthcoming.
Work will take place Monday through Thursday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Access to all area businesses will be maintained throughout the project, however access points may vary. Motorists are encouraged to watch for shifts in traffic patterns and follow all posted signage.
The entire project is scheduled to be complete in August 2010.
