Phase V: State Route 2 Modernization Plan
Final Phase of State Route 2 Modernization Plan to Begin Monday

Garfield Heights, Ohio (Wednesday, March 30, 2011)Beginning Monday, April 4, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Kokosing Construction Company will begin Phase V of the $181 million Lake 2 Corridor Modernization Plan.  Phase V resurfaces State Route 2 between Newell Street and the Grand River.

On Monday, crews will close the Richmond Street (SR 283) entrance ramp to SR 2 eastbound for milling and paving operations along SR 2 eastbound until October 2011.  Motorists will be detoured via SR 283 to SR 535 to U.S. 20 eastbound.

Traffic on SR 2 east and westbound will be maintained with one lane in each direction during construction.  During the winter months the traffic pattern will return to two lanes in each direction.

Night and weekend work are possible.  Details will be forthcoming.

The entire Phase V project is scheduled to be completed on June 30, 2012.

The State Route 2 Corridor was originally built during the 1960’s and designed for traffic volumes around 30,000 vehicles each day. Since that time, traffic volumes have more than doubled in the region. ODOT’s five-phase modernization plan is the first major upgrade to the roadway since that time.

The Lake 2 Corridor Modernization Plan and ODOT’s nearly $181 million investment will address substandard geometrics, noise and drainage issues as well as increase capacity in the region. This plan will modernize State Route 2 with a 35 year pavement design that will not require major maintenance for over two decades.

All dates and times are approximate and weather dependent.  For statewide construction and road condition information visit www.BuckeyeTraffic.org.
