Interstate 77 widening work to resume
I-77 phased construction postponed until overnight March 24
March 23, 2009, Garfield Heights, OH…Due to tonight’s predicted low temperatures, work originally scheduled to take place overnight tonight to begin phased construction on I-77 between Wallings and Rockside Road will now take place overnight Tuesday, March 24. Traffic will be shifted to the outside as crews work to build new pavement including the widened portion of I-77.
Overnight Tuesday, March 24 crews will close one lane of I-77 northbound between Wallings Road and Rockside Road from approximately 7:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 25 in order to shift traffic. One lane will remain open for access. At approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24 crews will also close the Pleasant Valley entrance ramp to I-77 northbound. The ramp is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 25.
By Wednesday morning rush hour, all northbound traffic is expected to be shifted to the outside between Wallings Road and Rockside Road. Lane closures are expected during off-peak hours as the project continues.
Work to shift the southbound lanes into phase is expected to take place late the week of March 23. Details will be forthcoming.
During mid-summer 2009, crews will shift traffic to the inside between Wallings Road and Rockside Road as they work to rebuild the outside lanes. Widening between Oakes Road and Wallings Road will take place during the 2010 and 2011 construction seasons.
The entire project adds a lane between Oakes Road and Rockside Road and is expected to be complete in October of 2011. On average, about 108,000 vehicles travel this portion of I-77 each day.
