Innerbelt Bridge Design Inspires Local Iron Artist
Bridge-inspired table design to be unveiled at the Great Big Home + Garden Show, February 2-10
Cleveland (Thursday, January 31, 2013) – So inspired by the design of the new Innerbelt Bridge, a local iron artist has been commissioned to create a table base emulating the new Innerbelt Bridge for display at this year’s Great Big Home + Garden Show, February 2-10 at Cleveland’s I-X Center.
The table will be displayed in one of eight "celebrity designer rooms," being designed by Unreal Granite of Perry, Ohio. Unreal Granite has constructed a massive custom table top that will enhance the base as well as be the room’s focal point.
“The new Innerbelt Bridge was the inspiration for this table,” said Evan Tenkku of Iron Hammer Designs, who designed the table base. “The bridge is elegant, strong and beautiful,” Tenkku continued. “I am glad this bridge is being built in Cleveland and I am even happier to be building my furniture here.”
According to Shirley Slemc, co-owner of Unreal Granite, the design not only showcases their product, but brings something positive to the City of Cleveland. “A bridge can be an amazing icon to a city,” Slemc said. “My team and I are delighted to be doing this room and draw our inspiration from Cleveland's beautiful new Innerbelt Bridge.”
The Innerbelt Bridge inspired design will be on display and for sale February 2-10 at Cleveland’s I-X Center. For more information on the Great Big Home + Garden Show visit www.greatbighomeandgarden.com.
The Innerbelt Bridge project includes replacing the current aging I-90 span with two new bridges. The design includes sweeping steel arches sitting atop arched concrete piers.
Crews are currently working to build the new westbound bridge, and it alone is the largest project in ODOT history. The westbound bridge is expected to be open to traffic this fall. Both bridges could be open to traffic as soon as late 2016.
