Crews prepare to begin construction of a new Innerbelt Bridge which will eventually carry westbound traffic. Beginning overnight Tuesday, March 8, weather dependent, crews will close the E. 21st Street ramp to I-77 southbound. The E. 21st Street ramp will remain closed until both the new westbound and eastbound Innerbelt bridges are constructed – for at least six years. Motorists will be detoured west on Carnegie Avenue to E. 14th Street or east on Carnegie Avenue to E. 22nd Street where motorists may enter Orange Avenue and continue on to I-77 southbound. Following the closure of the E. 21st Street ramp, crews will also restrict the I-90 westbound ramp to I-77 southbound to one lane as the ramp over E. 14th Street is rebuilt. Traffic will be maintained in a one-lane configuration until approximately late May. Delays are expected on I-90 westbound, particularly during the afternoon rush. Click here for more information. Tentative completion date: fall 2013.
