Interchange Improvements Coming to I-480 at Tiedeman Road
Additional lanes added to exit ramps to reduce congestion
GARFIELD HEIGHTS (Tuesday, November 27, 2012) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will be making improvements to the I-480 interchange at Tiedeman Road, in the city of Brooklyn, that will reduce congestion and improve safety. The project involves widening the I-480 east and westbound exit ramps and improving the ramp intersections to reduce delays for motorists at the interchange. The project will be constructed within the existing highway right-of-way.
The project is part of a pilot program being instituted by ODOT to enhance safety by improving traffic flow at interstate exit ramps where traffic often backs up onto the freeway. Candidate locations were chosen where improvements can be made without impacting adjacent properties. The project will be implemented using the design-build process, which will allow it to go to construction as early as the summer of 2013.
“There has been discussion of improving this interchange for a long time,” noted Myron Pakush, Deputy Director for ODOT District 12. “With this program, we can address the safety and congestion concerns in a matter of months instead of years.”
ODOT is currently completing the environmental review and preliminary design for the project. Comments and questions on the proposed improvements will be accepted via mail to Ohio Department of Transportation, Attn: Amanda Lee, 5500 Transportation Blvd., Garfield Heights, Ohio 44125 and via email to Amanda.Lee@dot.state.oh.us through December 18, 2012.
