Phase IV: State Route 2 Modernization Plan
Lake County’s State Route 2 To See Additional Resurfacing Work
Garfield Heights, Ohio (Friday, July 2, 2010) – On Thursday, July 8, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Karvo Paving Company of Cuyahoga Falls will begin Phase IV of the $175 million Lake 2 Corridor Modernization Plan. Phase IV resurfaces State Route 2 between the Grand River and U.S. 20.
Beginning Thursday, crews will close one lane of State Route 2 eastbound between U.S. 20 and Richmond Street for milling and paving operations until early August.
Traffic will be maintained with one lane in the eastbound direction and two lanes in the westbound direction during that time.
Closures in the westbound portion will occur following the eastbound lanes. Details will be forthcoming.
The entire Phase IV project is scheduled to be completed on October 15, 2010.
The State Route 2 Corridor was originally built during the 1960’s and designed for traffic volumes around 30,000 vehicles each day. Since that time, traffic volumes have more than doubled in the region. ODOT’s four-phase modernization plan is the first major upgrade to the roadway since that time.
The Lake 2 Corridor Modernization Plan and ODOT’s nearly $175 million investment will address substandard geometrics, noise and drainage issues as well as increase capacity in the region. This plan will modernize State Route 2 with a 35 year pavement design that will not require major maintenance for over two decades.
