Crews are installing sheet piling like this in areas around the project to hold-back hillsides as crews work on the multi-use path and other areas.
Lakefront West Project Update: Crews are currently working on pavement widening, underground drainage, retaining walls, and replacement of the bridge that carries the Shoreway over the Lake Avenue entrance ramp. On the Shoreway, one lane remains closed in each direction along with off-peak closures of additional lanes. Traffic on the Herman Avenue bridge over the Shoreway is reduced to southbound traffic only until about early October as the Herman ramps to the westbound Shoreway are replaced. In addition, the Lake Avenue entrance ramp to the Shoreway east and the eastbound exit ramp to Edgewater Park are closed through mid-December 2015. For more info on these ramp closures click here.
Many of You Have Asked: “What’s the metal material being installed around the Shoreway and sometimes blocking my view?” This is called “sheet piling” and it is temporary. It’s used to hold back the hillside in this area as crews install the retaining wall for the multi-use path. The sheet piling and other piling work will continue intermittently during days (NEVER at night) through November. Call it the “sound of progress!”
Coming Soon: In early October the speed limit on the west Shoreway will be permanently reduced to 35 miles per hour. Details will be forthcoming.
