Monday, January 2, 2012As snow squalls set in over northeast Ohio throughout the day, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is operating at maximum capacity with nearly 80 snowplows salting and plowing the roadways in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties.

ODOT snowplow drivers are operating around the clock on 12-hour shifts until the snow stops.  “We have all our ice and snow removal tools and hands on deck,” said District 12 Public Information Officer Amanda Lee.  “Our snowplow drivers are well trained and can handle any type of winter weather condition that hits northeast Ohio.”

Most area roadways are running wet in the western portions of Cuyahoga County and partially snow covered in eastern Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties.  Traffic is flowing well on all area roadways this morning.  Drivers headed out today are reminded to proceed with caution.

An ODOT winter driving safety report shows a large number of crashes are due to unsafe speed and following too closely.  Remember, in Ice and Snow…Take it Slow.  Brake early, brake slowly and never slam on the brakes.  Motorists need to give themselves plenty of room to stop.

ODOT strongly encourages motorists to visit www.BuckeyeTraffic.org before heading out today and always!  Here drivers can find updated road and weather conditions before hitting the road by viewing road and weather sensors, traffic cameras and traffic speeds on their route.
