Public Meeting to Discuss Possible Noise Barriers on I-271 Widening Project

GARFIELD HEIGHTS (Friday, September 13, 2013)The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will hold an Open House Public Meeting to discuss the possible construction of noise barriers along a limited area adjacent to Interstate Route 271  in the Cities of Warrensville Heights, Bedford Heights and Oakwood.
The noise barriers would be installed as part of the I-271 widening project between Miles Road and the Summit County line.  The need for this widening project was identified in March 2002 and previous funding projections showed construction beginning in 2027.  With Gov. John R. Kasich’s “Jobs and Transportation Plan” utilizing innovative funding methods, the estimated $125 million project is now scheduled to begin in 2016.
WHO:             The Ohio Department of Transportation District 12
WHAT:          Public meeting regarding I-271 widening and noise barriers project
WHEN:          Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Relative to each noise barrier offered, if ODOT does NOT receive a response from at least 50% of the benefitted homes near I-271, in favor of the noise barrier, it is considered a lack of interest in noise abatement, and the noise barrier will NOT be built.

Responses to an online questionnaire and written comments will be used to decide if noise abatement should be built along I-271. Residents can submit there comments online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/271NoiseAbatementQuestionnaire
The completed questionnaire and written comments must be received by October 2, 2013.

ODOT will review the public comments before making the final decision on the construction and aesthetics of the proposed noise barriers. If you have any questions about the public meeting, please contact Thomas Sorge, Environmental Specialist 2, at (216) 584-2086 or at Tom.Sorge@dot.state.oh.us.
