Cleveland (Wednesday, July 14, 2010)Beginning Monday, July 19, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Great Lake Construction Company will begin a project to rehabilitate the Center Street Swing Bridge over the Cuyahoga River in the City of Cleveland.  The $2.6 million project is sponsored by the City of Cleveland and paid for with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funds.

Crews will close the Center Street Swing Bridge on Monday, July 19 in order to rehabilitate the mechanical and electrical components of the structure.  The bridge will remain closed until the rehabilitation is complete.

Traffic will be detoured via Washington Avenue, West 25th Street, Franklin Boulevard and Columbus Road.

The bridge is schedule to be completed and open to the public on, or around, June 30, 2011.

Motorists will notice signs at this construction site, announcing “Putting America to Work: Project Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.”  Similar orange-and-green signs have been erected when work begins at stimulus-funded projects across Ohio.

As of July 1st, ODOT and its local partners had awarded contracts on more than 381 stimulus-funded transportation construction projects worth more than $871 million. So far, 88 of those stimulus projects have been completed on Ohio's roadways and bridges, providing safer travel for Ohio's citizens and businesses.

Since the start of the Recovery Act, thousands of construction workers on stimulus-funded transportation projects in Ohio have earned more than $41.5 million in paychecks. During this summer of construction, ODOT expects to pay out more than $40 million in additional paychecks to laborers and workers on stimulus-funded construction projects across the state.
